Alastair Cook hits century for the MCC
Essex batsman Alastair Cook hit a century for the MCC against Sussex on day one of the first-class season at Lord’s on Friday.
Cook celebrated his appointment as captain of the MCC for their match with the champion county in style with a 159-ball ton made in 216 minutes that included 16 fours.
Essex Captain Ronnie Irani told the Essex CCC website (www.essexcricket.org.uk) upon hearing the news:
“This is another fantastic achievement for Alastair in the early stages of what I’m sure will be a long and illustrious career. There is no doubt in my mind that he has what it takes to be a future England captain. For me as a Captain and for Essex as a Club it is our duty to develop players to perform at the highest level. Alastair is a shining example of the work put into bringing on our younger players at this County.”
Ball-by-ball commentary of the match is being streamed live on the internet via www.lords.org
