Flower signs two-year deal with Essex

All-rounder Grant Flower has signed a new two-year contract with Essex that will keep him at the Club until the end of the 2008 season.

The 35-year-old featured in 18 matches for the first-team in 2006, including six County Championship appearances in which he scored 307 runs @ 34.11 and took seven wickets @ 23.71.

The former Zimbabwe international also played a significant part in Essex’s successful NatWest Pro40 campaign with his tight spells of slow bowling and ability in the field.

Flower told the Essex CCC website:

“I see myself more now in the one-day set-up, but if there are any injuries or loss of form then hopefully I can be ready to take my chances in the Championship side as well.

“I seemed to be playing more as a bowler towards the end of last season, because our batting was so strong, but wherever I play I’m pretty relaxed. To grab a cliché, the team is the biggest part of any side - it’s not about the individual - and if the team’s doing well and I’ve got some sort of role with Essex then I’ll be pretty happy.”
