Worcestershire v Leicestershire in penultimate fixture

By Cricket News

Worcestershire will go in search of a win against Leicestershire as action gets underway in the County’s penultimate fixture in the 2006 Liverpool Victoria County Championship; the last this year at the New Road ground.

Promotion in the four day game is still a very real prospect for the home side, currently third in the table. They will fight fiercely to secure a win over the Foxes and close the two point gap between themselves and second place Essex.

But the visitors will not succumb easily if their recent track record is anything to go by, having not conceded a defeat in their last five consecutive County Championship matches.

On the cusp of 1000 runs for this season’s Liverpool Victoria competition, wicket keeper Steve Davies will be looking to put in another sterling performance for the county and advance the push for promotion.

Davies says, ”This has been my first full season of first XI cricket so it’s great to have been part of such a fantastic team, both on and off the field. We’re hungry to get back to first division cricket so hopefully we can really hammer our promotion quest home with the next two crucial matches and finish 2006 on a real high.”

Director of Cricket, Steven Rhodes, says, “It’s fantastic to be able to look forward to another exciting end to the season at Worcestershire. We’ve seen some fine displays of cricket here throughout the summer and, as we draw towards autumn, the final Liverpool Victoria game at New Road provides us with a great opportunity to play some good championship cricket in front of our home crowd.”

Tickets are available for the game via the club website at www.wccc.co.uk by telephone on 01905 337 921 in advance or at the gate on the day. All tickets are priced at £10 Adults and £4 Junior.
