Dehring Salutes Sonn’s Elevation to ICC Presidency

ICC CWC WI 2007 Inc. Managing Director & CEO, Chris Dehring, took the opportunity to honour new ICC President, Percy Sonn, while the latter was in Jamaica last week for a quarterly update on next year’s ICC Cricket World Cup.

During a dinner which was held last Friday at Dehring’s residence in Kingston – to mark Sonn’s elevation to international cricket’s most prestigious post – the ICC CWC 2007 Managing Director & CEO stressed that the significance of the South African’s achievement is “not lost on us here in the Caribbean”.

“For Percy – who might at one time have been labelled a terrorist in his homeland, South Africa, as a freedom fighter against the apartheid system – to have risen to the status of President of the International Cricket Council, strikes a particular note with us in this region. We too, unstintingly, supported the cause for which he fought,” said Dehring.

He was addressing a gathering which included ICC CEO Malcolm Speed, officials from the Global Cricket Corporation (GCC), former West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) presidents Pat Rousseau and Teddy Griffith, members of the Board of Directors of ICC CWC WI 2007 Inc. and staff of ICC CWC 2007 headquarters.

Current WICB president and ICC CWC WI 2007 Inc. Chairman, Kenneth Gordon, was also in attendance and he too paid tribute to the new ICC president.

“Percy has proven himself to be a solid cricket administrator and the world of cricket will benefit from his experience.”
