Martin Bicknell retires from first-class cricket

The 37 year old, in his 21st season for the Club had planned to hang up the boots at the end of the season, however niggling injuries have forced the Surrey legend to call it a day.

Bicknell, regarded by most as one of the best bowlers in County Cricket for over a decade, joined a select club last season when he became the 15th bowler for Surrey to reach 1000 first-class wickets for the Club.

“I have loved every minute of my time at Surrey but I think that now is the right time. It’s been a huge honour to represent the County for this long and the memories I have and the friends that I have made during my time here are priceless”, he said.

Surrey Cricket Manager, Alan Butcher added, “Martin Bicknell is one of the true Surrey greats. Over 1000 wickets in a 20 year career marks him out as a great bowler, but his contributions with the bat over the last seven or eight years have elevated him to the position of a genuine all-rounder. He was integral to Surrey’s success during the ‘glory years’ between 1997-2003, and is one of those cricketers who are truly irreplaceable.”
