Surrey CCC announce sell out for Pakistan Twenty20 Charity match

Surrey County Cricket Club have announced that Monday’s Twenty20 match between Pakistan and an International XI has sold out.

A full house is expected at the Brit Oval for the game, which will raise money for the President’s Earthquake Relief Fund.

Some of the world’s finest cricketers, including Brian Lara, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar will be on show for what promises to be an exciting evening’s cricket.

The sell out will ensure that a significant amount of money will be go towards helping the victims of the quake that struck parts of Pakistan last October. In addition to the money raised on the day, Brit Insurance, Surrey County Cricket Club and the Brit Oval’s major sponsors, have also pledged £100,000 to the cause.

Surrey Chief Executive, Paul Sheldon, said, “It is great news that our loyal spectators and the wider cricketing public have supported this special fixture. We are very pleased to support this worthy cause and are hoping that the day will be a huge success. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the event.”

Bears Sign Paul Harris

Warwickshire CCC have offered a contract to 27 year old South African Paul Harris. The club has agreed a deal for the remainder of this season and for the 2007 season.

The slow left-arm bowler trialled with the Warwickshire CCC Second XI last month whilst over in England playing for Lancashire League Club Fleetwood. Paul has played first-class cricket in South Africa for the Northerns, Titans and Western Province.

Paul has 109 first-class wickets at an average of 28.75 and is excited about playing for Warwickshire CCC. “It was a very big decision but I am sure I have made the right one for my future and I look forward to playing for the Club for a long time.”

Director of Coaching, Mark Greatbatch, said, “ Due to the exceptional circumstances of the season so far with the injury to Dan Vettori and Nick James in addition to Alex Loudon being called up for England duty we have done a lot of research into a suitable replacement. Paul is a very experienced player and will add value and depth to the current squad.”
