Surrey CCC announce sell out for Friday’s Surrey v Middlesex match

Surrey County Cricket Club have announced that this Friday’s Twenty20 Cup match between Surrey and Middlesex has sold out.

A crowd of over 20,000 is expected at the Brit Oval for Surrey’s last home group game which will be a must win match if their quarter-final chances are to remain alive.

The sold out match is a major boost not just to the Brit Oval but also for Twenty20 cricket in general, with the Football World Cup predicted to drive crowds away from all forms of cricket for the duration of the tournament.

Against this background, it is therefore surprising that the Club can report a slight increase on ticket sales when compared to last year.

Commenting on the positive news, Sales and Marketing Director, Paul Blanchard said, “It’s great to see that Twenty20 cricket at the Brit Oval is still as popular as ever. We’ve had two group games clashing with World Cup fixtures, notably England’s quarter-final with Portugal last Saturday, and yet we still had almost 8,500 turn out for that game. Friday’s sell out, with over 20,000 in the ground is a strong indication that Twenty20 cricket is here to stay.”

The crowd on Friday will take the Brit Oval’s 2006 Twenty20 crowds to almost 60,000. Last year, on top of the four home matches there was an additional quarter-final and finals day, which means that in the last two seasons, the Brit Oval has hosted almost 150,000 Twenty20 supporters.
