Surrey seek revenge against the Sharks

Surrey take on the Sussex Sharks in a crunch Twenty20 match at the Brit Oval this evening.

At the halfway stage in the group matches, Surrey are lying fourth in the southern league. The Brown Caps will be looking to seek revenge against a Sussex side who had their measure last week at Hove, whilst Sussex will endeavour to increase their lead at the top of the table.

Surrey coach Alan Butcher has selected an unchanged squad for this evening’s match at the Brit Oval. On a superb looking pitch and outfield, in form Surrey batsmen James Benning, Ali Brown and Mark Ramprakash will be looking to make optimum use of the outstanding conditions.

Mark Butcher will continue to rest his lower back, whilst Jimmy Ormond,  who bowled excellently for the Surrey second XI last week,  will continue his recovery by playing against Hampshire second XI at Normandy cricket club today.

The squad to play against Sussex Sharks this evening is: James Benning, Ali Brown, Mark Ramprakash, Azhar Mahmood, Rikki Clarke (captain), Jonathan Batty (wicket-keeper), Stewart Walters, Tim Murtagh, Ian Salisbury, Jade Dernbach, Nayan Doshi and Scott Newman.

With magnificent weather forecasted, it promises to be a great evenings entertainment so why not come down and enjoy some exhilarating cricket in the awesome surroundings of the Brit Oval. The gates will be open from 3:30pm with tickets available from the ticket office for just £15 (£7.50 under 16).

Marston’s strikes beer deal with Surrey CCC

Marston’s has been named the official beer of Surrey County Cricket Club following a 10-year agreement to supply the Brit Oval.

The deal, which makes Surrey the sixth county cricket Club to be affiliated with the brewer, means that Marston’s Pedigree and Smooth will be on tap at the Brit Oval, Surrey’s home ground and the venue of last year’s Ashes victory.

Peter Jackson, marketing director for WDB Brands, said: “The partnership makes perfect sense, not least because, as leaders in our field, we both strive for quality in producing great beer and great cricket. We are pleased to extend our involvement with Surrey County Cricket Club, at such a prestigious venue, one with such happy memories for all English cricket fans when the Ashes were regained!”

Paul Sheldon, chief executive of Surrey County Cricket Club, said: “The pouring rights agreement with WDB Brands is a significant step forward for the Club as it brings commercial benefits and an enhanced product range for our members and visitors, backed up with improved service levels from our catering partners, Oval Events. We are delighted to be associated with WDB Brands and look forward to a mutually beneficial and successful long-term relationship.”

Marston’s will be sponsoring a number of future promotions, which include Marston’s Moment of the Month, voted for by supporters on the Surrey website, giving both supporters and players the chance to win a case of beer.
