Must win game for Surrey in Twenty20

What a great day for Twenty20 cricket. Summer is well and truly here. Blue skies and a hot day have greeted the Brit Oval today for this crucial match between Surrey and Essex.

The loss last night to Sussex means that a win today is crucial to keep Surrey at the top of the South group. The Eagles are fresh off a win last night against Hampshire so Rikki Clarke’s men will have their work cut out.

Why not come down and enjoy an exciting day’s cricket which will finish just in time for you to get yourself to a suitable venue to watch England take on Portugal in their World Cup quarter-final match. Surrey kick-off at 12.30pm and the match is expected to finish at around 3.15pm so you’ll have plenty of time to catch the football, beginning at 4pm.

Surrey will go into day’s match with the same eleven that has played in the first three matches to date.

Surrey captain Mark Butcher will continue to rest his lower back and so Clarke will again captain the Surrey side. The full Surrey side is; James Benning, Ali Brown, Mark Ramprakash, Azhar Mahmood, Rikki Clarke (captain), Jonathan Batty (wicket-keeper), Stewart Walters, Tim Murtagh, Ian Salisbury, Jade Dernbach, Nayan Doshi.

Tickets will be available from the ticket office for just £15. Match begins at 12.30pm and gates open from 10.30am.

Warwickshire CCC Help “Five Ways Old Edwardian Cricket Club”

Tragedy struck at Five Ways Old Edwardian Cricket Club on Sunday night when a fire broke out in the clubhouse. The damage has left only the shell of the clubhouse and all the contents have been lost to the fire.

This is a devastating blow for such an active club and, with 14 games of cricket over the next ten days, they are desperately looking for temporary arrangements for essential facilities such as changing rooms and toilets.

As a supporter of Warwickshire CCC over many years the club has donated 100 tickets for next Friday’s Twenty20 Cup fixture for them to raffle and sell on to try and raise some urgently needed funds.

Mark Tovey, Club Chairman said, “this is a devastating blow for everyone associated with the Club particularly those members who have done so much in recent years to expand and improve cricket in the area.  We now have six weekend teams, a thriving women’s section and two junior sides.

Warwickshire CCC Marketing Manager Jonathan Cockcroft was saddened by the news. “Warwickshire CCC and Five Ways Old Edwardians have a strong relationship through the county’s ‘Club Together’ Scheme.  In this distressing time, we were delighted to assist Five Ways’ fundraising by offering them some complimentary Twenty20 Cup tickets.  This is a great example of ‘clubbing together’ and we hope Five Ways Old Edwardians CC returns to normality as soon as possible.”
