Warwickshire CCC keep things in perspective

Warwickshire CCC are keen to keep things in perspective as they approach the mid-point of their season.

Whilst results have been not going the first team’s way, the Second XI under the guidance of Neal Abberley and Keith Piper is back to winning ways.  Over recent weeks they have won their last two four day games and taken two victories out of two matches in the Second XI Trophy. These successes have earned Luke Parker, Moeen Ali, Nick James and Navdeep Poonia call-ups into the first XI. Keith Piper commented that the team was on a high at the moment. “We are working well as a unit and players are being rewarded for their success and given opportunities at the next level.”

A string of injuries plus England call-ups have meant that playing resources at the club have been stretched and not since the days of Amiss, Jameson and Willis have Warwickshire had 3 players in senior international duty at the same time. Alex Loudon has joined the familiar names of Giles and Bell in the full England camp. In addition Moeen Ali, Nick James and Andy Miller have graduated to England Under 19 set up and Chris Woakes has been selected for the England Under 17s.

In general, cricket throughout the club is in good shape at the moment with all Warwickshire age group sides in full competition around the county. The Warwickshire Cricket Board have won an impressive 2 thirds of all matches played. The WCB teams range across all ages from Under 10s and are made up of kids from all backgrounds of which 35% are of Asian origin.

The Warwickshire Academy are also in full training and both Luke Radford and James Ord have made their second team debuts this week. Tom Lewis, Bhavik Patel and Richard Johnson all have two centuries to their name this season so far and are hoping to build full time careers at the county ground in the years ahead.

Chief Executive, Colin Povey said, “We would all love the first XI to be winning more but across the board we are developing a strong winning culture, which I am confident will bring us  the long term success the club is striving for.”

Sussex C&G Final Ticket Procedure

Sussex County Cricket Club has been allocated 4,500 tickets for the C&GO Final v Lancashire at Lord’s on Saturday 26 August. Prices are £40, £26 and £24, with under 16s tickets at £10.  An order form will be drafted within the next few days and we intend to mail all members on Monday 10th July inviting their postal applications over a period of two weeks.

MCC have informed us that they have sold all non-allocated tickets apart from restricted views.  The final looks to be heading for a sell-out for the first time in a few years.  Lancashire and ourselves have been allocated the Compton and Edrich stands, Lancashire in Compton, Sussex in Edrich.

To be scrupulously fair to members we will be contacting them all by post at the same time, there will be no email or telephone orders.  Those submitting applications by post can be allocated two tickets maximum.  Members who call in personally to the Club can deliver their envelope by hand and save 24 hours in the post, however tickets will not be allocated there and then.  The tickets are in the process of being printed by MCC at Lord’s and should be delivered to the Club with further details on Friday 30 June.

Tickets will be allocated to members on a first-come, first-served basis.  Any tickets remaining unsold after 24th July will be made available to non-members and a further announcement will be made at that time.
