ICC CWC 2007 Volunteer Registration In Full Swing
Hundreds of Caribbean residents are already answering the call for volunteers for next year’s ICC Cricket World Cup – with registration well underway across the nine Host Venues.
However, hundreds more persons will be needed to fill all 20 categories of volunteers for the world-class tournament. An estimated 3,500 volunteers are required to carry out a variety of roles during Warm-up and tournament matches next March and April.
Volunteer Application Forms are now available from the offices of the nine Local Organising Committees (LOCs) and the electronic equivalent can be downloaded from the tournament website (www.cricketworldcup.com), completed and submitted to LOC offices. Those interested in becoming volunteers have until Thursday August 31, 2006, to sign up.
CWC VIBES, as ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 volunteers are known, will play a crucial role in the Event. Discussions on their role and the certification process for their training programme were the focal points of the recent one-day LOC Volunteer Coordinator Summit in Saint Lucia. Held in conjunction with ICC CWC 2007 Venue Summit IX, the meeting of Volunteer leaders involved 18 participants with representatives from all nine LOCs.
The training of the CWC VIBES is among the legacy aspects of ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 – the aim being that all training will be certified by an official training or certification body in each Host Venue. Another legacy factor is the development of a national register of volunteers in each Host Venue, using ICC CWC 2007 as a launching pad. Participants gave feedback on how this drive has been progressing in their respective countries.
“I am really pleased. We’re getting much closer to tournament time and we have already established a good, solid database of volunteers. I am pleased to see how much work has been done in all of the countries,” said ICC CWC 2007 Volunteer Programme Manager, Peter McIntosh.
The next CWC VIBES summit takes place in September and at that session the focus will be on finalising the delivery of the training sessions. Volunteer training takes place from November 2006 to January 2007, following the security-screening and accreditation of Volunteers.
