Get Ready For The Bat-Men

On Tuesday 27th June, the Warwickshire Bears will transform into the Bat-Men for the Twenty20 Cup, which returns for the 2006 season.

The Bears start their campaign at Northampton on 27th before their first home game at Edgbaston on Wednesday 28th June against the Glamorgan Dragons. In 2005 the Bears reached the quarter finals of the cup before losing to the Surrey Lions in a thrilling bowl out at the Brit Oval.

Edgbaston hosts four home matches against the Glamorgan Dragons, the Gloucestershire Gladiators, the Worcestershire Royals and the Northamptonshire Steelbacks. The ground will burst into life for this fast and furious form of the game with music being supplied by 96.4 BRMB fm. If England reach the World Cup quarter finals on Friday 30th June, big screens will be put up around the ground for everyone to watch from kick off at 4.00p.m.

Warwickshire will be looking to their top Bat-Men, the likes of Neil Carter, Nick Knight, JonathanTrott and Jim Troughton to post big totals which the bowlers can defend. Key bowlers such as Dougie Brown and Jimmy Anyon will be hoping to strike early removing the big hitters from the game. Fielding will need to be sharp and Heath Streak will need to keep his men focused for the duration of the competition.

Jimmy Anyon made a dramatic entrance into the competition last year with a hat-trick against the Northamptonshire Steelbacks and is looking forward to the competition this season. “I love the buzz of the Twenty20 and can’t wait to start. The noisy crowds are a great lift for the team as it really gets our adrenalin pumping and my hat-trick last year was the highlight of my career so far.”
