Surrey squad to play Gloucestershire, June 18
After a fantastic victory in the Liverpool Victoria County Championship against Somerset at Bath, Surrey lead the second division on 123 points.
Surrey now travel to Bristol to take on Gloucestershire in their penultimate C&G trophy match tomorrow. There have been three changes made to the squad that earned their fifth Championship win of the season at Bath. Young Surrey quick bowlers Jade Dernbach and Tim Murtagh come in as straight swaps for Mohammed Akram and Martin Bicknell, the two getting a well earned rest in the lead up to next weeks Championship match against Glamorgan. Stewart Walters comes in for Richard Clinton, the young surrey all-rounder is fresh from a decent week for the second XI, having scored 86 and 47 in the drawn match against Warwickshire second XI.
Injury News: Jimmy Ormond, who made a comeback from a back injury last week at Warwickshire for the second XI, could only complete five overs before pulling up with an injury to his left knee. Medical staff have diagnosed the injury as bruising to the bone and have cleared Ormond to bowl in the nets on Monday and expect him to be fit to play in the second XI match against Glamorgan at Cheam.
Azhar Mahmood has had an injection to the ankle injury that forced him out of the Championship match at Bath. The Surrey all-rounder has been told by medical staff to rest for two to three days and start training with gradual progression. He is expected to perform a light training session on Monday and have a bowl in the nets on Tuesday which will mean that he will almost certainly miss Surrey’s Championship clash with Glamorgan at Swansea. Mahmood is predicted to return in time to take on Essex in Surrey’s last C&G match at Chelmsford.
