International Cricket Stars Come To Sussex

Eastbourne is preparing for a major fundraising event as Sussex County Cricket Club takes on the might of the international star players of Lashings World XI – the world’s greatest international cricket club side.

Sussex County Cricket Club is delighted to put itself on the line to face an unforgettable sporting challenge in aid of the James Kirtley Benefit. The Sussex cricketers will be taking on the renowned Lashings World XI team for a very different kind of fundraising event. Sponsored by EMC Corporate Finance, the match will take place on Wednesday 14 June 2006.

The Lashings World XI line-up reads like a Who’s Who of world cricket, with legends such as Richie Richardson (WI), Aravinda De Silva (SL), Alvin Kallicharran (WI), Gordon Greenidge (WI) and Phil Defreitas (ENG), alongside current stars such as Chris Cairns (NZ), Brendan McCullum (NZ) and England Women’s 2005 Ashes-winning captain, Clare Connor.

James Kirtley can’t wait to take Lashings on, “This is a fantastic opportunity for the people of Eastbourne to see international and county cricketers back at The Saffrons for the first time since 2000.

“It is very special for me to play this game at my home-town club, a club that has been part of my cricketing life since 1990, it provided me with a great foundation for which I am truly grateful. I am looking forward to what promises to be a great evening of exciting, fun-packed Twenty20 cricket.”

“Its great to be able to bring such a prestigious event to James’ home town, one certainly one not to be missed.” Added Danny Marshall of Daniel Marshall Associates Ltd and James’ Benefit Chairman.

The James Kirtley Benefit Committee has made provision for corporate hospitality at the event, offering local and national businesses the chance to meet the cricketing superstars - and to have one of them join you for lunch on your table. If you are interested in taking a table at the event, please contact Molly Allen by phone, tel: 01273 220074 or email: molly@bluedesignuk.com.

ICC CWC 2007 Official Travel Agents Reach 50 Mark

The number of Official Travel Agents (OTAs) for ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 is now 50 – and increasing!

Eight new OTAs, including the first one from Ireland and four more from the UK, have been signed while agreements with other potential OTAs are pending as the global cricket community continues to show significant interest in the Tour & Travel programme for next year’s ICC Cricket World Cup.

ICC CWC 2007 Official Tour Operator, Cricket Logistics 2007, has confirmed the appointment of Sadlier Travel in Ireland whose national cricket team will compete in the international tournament for the first time ever.

In the UK, the new additions are: Grand Cru Travel, Rumsey Travel Limited, Thomas Cook Sport and Travel & Tours Anywhere Limited. These carry the total number of OTAs in Britain to 11 – which Cricket Logistics 2007 has determined is enough to cater to that market.

Meanwhile, Alken Tours, Island Vacations and TravelSpan Vacations have joined the growing list of American travel companies now authorised to sell Tour & Travel packages (inclusive of match tickets) for the Event being held across nine Caribbean Host Venues. This brings the number of OTAs in the USA to five. Australia and India have also shown great interest in this programme with nine and five OTAs having been signed in those countries respectively.

There are eight OTAs among the Host Venues; three in Jamaica, two in Barbados, and one each in St. Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia and Trinidad & Tobago.

“Global sales of Tour & Travel packages continue to exceed expectations and early indications show that supporters from every Participating Nation have already booked. If demand continues at its current pace we can confidently say that this Cricket World Cup will not only be the best ever, but also the best supported,” said Margaret Gibson, Manager - Cricket Logistics 2007.

Meanwhile, enquiries from persons in Host Venues – or other Caribbean countries – in which there is no OTA should be directed to Cricket Logistics. The latter has been forwarding such requests to OTAs in the nearest neighbouring country to that of the person seeking Tour & Travel packages. For example, requests from the Cayman Islands are being administered by OTAs in Jamaica and Kantours in St. Kitts is handling the demand from Anguilla, St. Croix, St. Maarten, St. Thomas and Tortola.
